Abstract
Insomnia is a disorder of sleep onset or maintenance; It is classified according to the time of evolution, according to whether it is associated with another pathology and according to its severity. The diagnosis is mainly clinical, and does not warrant complementary studies such as laboratory and cabinet examinations. Non-pharmacological treatment includes cognitive behavior therapy, sleep hygiene measures, stimulus control, and relaxation techniques; while pharmacological treatment must be individualized for each patient, and could involve the use of benzodiazepines, Z compounds, melatonin antagonists or tricyclic antidepressants. There is a great impact on the quality of life and mental physical health in patients suffering from insomnia.
