Abstract
Costa Rica, like developed countries, has a growing behavior in incidence, prevalence and mortality associated with diabetes mellitus type 2.1. Therefore, this pandemic has called on scientists to investigate in greater depth different factors that may intervene in the appearance, complications and possible effective therapeutic measures to counteract this problem. Although it is true, a large number of studies show that the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus is due to an unhealthy lifestyle2,3; however, recent research shows that the genetic architecture has a relevant transcendence in the development of the pathology.
