Abstract
Acute Bronchiolitis due to Respiratory Syncytial Virus is usually a self-limiting disease of the lower respiratory tract. Generally, it manifests by upper respiratory tract symptoms. It has a high global prevalence, with annual epidemiological outbreaks depending on the geographical area. It occurs mainly in children younger than 2 years and can cause repeated infections throughout life, since it does not seem to provide protective immunity. There are predisposing risk factors for greater severity of the disease. The evaluation is carried out mainly by the medical history and physical examination, although there are certain complementary studies that can be done. The treatment is principally supportive, there is no major scientific evidence for an specific treatment. There is prophylaxis with Palivizumab, this is reserved for specific cases. There are vaccines in developmental stage. The prognosis is mostly good, even though it can be associated with morbidity and mortality.
