Abstract
Myelomeningocele is a neural tube defect which occurs during primary neurulation and where the bones of the spine do not form completely, generating an incomplete intervertebral canal. This causes the meninges and nerve tissue to bulge out of the child's back. Myelomeningocele has a multifactorial origin. This is the neural tube defect with the highest prevalence in the world. In its diagnosis, the method of choice is ultrasound, however in recent years the use of magnetic resonance imaging has become important, just as the measurement of magnetic resonance has been important. alpha fetoprotein. Treatment consists of prenatal check-ups, post-birth surgical interventions (including subsequent systematic check-ups) as well as care during delivery.
