Abstract
During the last decade, as a result of the decriminalization of Cannabis sp. (commonly known as marijuana) there has been a marked increase in its use. Unfortunately, this boom in consumption was answered with a relatively slow proliferation of scientific research on Cannabis sp. and its more than 100 components. Consequently, a variety of pharmacotherapeutic properties began to be attributed to Cannabis sp. which ultimately were lacking any scientific grounding, ablight being highly attractive for certain groups. Among them, Cannabidiol (CBD) stood out, due to its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that are particularly interesting to high-performance athletes, as they are particularly susceptible to injuries, pain and chronic inflammation. This article carried out a bibliographic review of the literature regarding: a) the pharmacology of CBD; b) the production of inflammation and; c) therapeutic applications of this phytocannabinoid. For this, a non-reproducible search was implemented in EBSCO Host and PUBMED, which culminated in the review of 20 scientific articles and 3 textbooks. In order to carry out a preliminary assessment on the viability of incorporating CBD as an anti-inflammatory in the recovery of high-performance athletes.
