Abstract

A polytraumatized patient is defined as a patient with two or more serious traumatic injuries that lead to organ dysfunction and endanger life. Worldwide, it constitutes a serious public health problem. It is considered the leading cause of death in people under 45 years of age globaly. Among the main causes of death in polytraumatized patients, injuries to the central nervous system and hemorrhages can be mentioned. Also, half of the deaths occur before even reaching a hospital and the rest occur in the hospital. Most of these deaths have an accidental origin, with traffic accidents and work accidents being the most frequent causes. Trauma severity indices are a series of scales to assess anatomical and physiological alterations to calculate the probability of survival of the patient as well as its prognostic.
