Abstract
Pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS) is defined as chronic pelvic pain usually associated with vulvar or perineal varices as a result of reflux or obstruction of the gonadal, gluteal or periuterine veins. The etiology is diverse and involves both mechanical and hormonal factors that contribute to venous insufficiency and dilation. The diagnosis is confirmed with imaging techniques, with digital subtraction venography being the gold standard. There are many treatment options for PCS including hormonal therapy, embolotherapy, sclerotherapy, and endovascular and open surgery. One of the best established is endovascular occlusion of dilated vessels.
