Abstract
The evolution of antiretroviral therapy has had a great impact on the survival of patients with HIV infection, producing an increase in the presence of comorbidities not related to AIDS, such as autoimmune.
Objective: To carry out an updated search of the available information regarding autoimmune diseases and their presentation in patients with HIV infection. Materials and methods: Through an advanced search in medical literature databases from January 1989 to 2021 using key words such as HIV, rheumatic manifestations, autoimmunity, only literature in English in patients over 18 years of age. Results: There are challenges in the management of autoimmune diseases in HIV positive patients, as well as difficulty in defining disease activity and safety of immunosuppressive drugs. Conclusions: This review focuses on the presentation characteristics of rheumatic diseases in the population with HIV, as well as the therapeutic discussion for these patients and the use of ART therapy.
