Abstract
Hormone replacement therapy has been a taboo subject for many people over the years, even within the medical profession. This is since in the early 2000s, studies on the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) were announced, which spoke of more harmful than beneficial results, received wide publicity, which created panic among the crowd, negatively influencing physicians to prescribe it. Subsequently, considering all the effects of menopause, symptomatology, cardiovascular risk and affectation in quality of life, new studies were conducted where it was shown that the use of HRT in younger and early postmenopausal women is very beneficial in terms of cardiovascular risk, reducing coronary heart disease and mortality, among others, improving not only vasomotor symptoms, but also in the area of sexuality and psychosocial level. Despite this, public opinion has not changed and it is still believed that HRT equals cancer, among other adverse effects erroneously attributed to it. This has a negative impact on the health and quality of life of this population group.
