Abstract

The World Health Organization declared a global emergency on January 30, 2020 for the SARSCOV-2 variant, Which affected millions of people worldwide by increasing mortality in people with chronic noncommunicable diseases. Objective: To determine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health status of older adults with chronic non-transmissible diseases, Method: Quantitative approach, non-experimental, cross-sectional descriptive field design; the total population was considered as a source of data collection consisting of 64 people with chronic noncommunicable diseases who belong to a club of older adults, the validated SF36 questionnaire instrument that assesses health status was used. According to sociodemographic information, older adults are from 65 to 97 years old, 59.4% female, 45.3% with low income level. During confinement, 51.6% of older adults had a poor general health status, 26.6% had a bad physical role, 39.1% poor social function level, 31.3% poor mental health. Conclusion: the effects of the pandemic on the study population had a negative impact on their physical, mental and social, their vulnerability is not only due to age, but also to the economic situation, low education, not having a social and living with chronic noncommunicable diseases, impairing the functions of daily life and their independence.
