Abstract
Retinal arterial macroaneurysm is a rare condition in the population, and it is generally observed in elderly people with metabolic comorbidities such as type II diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension, which predispose to retinal vessel sclerosis. In view of the above, we present the case of an 87-year-old female patient who came for ophthalmologic consultation due to vision loss. Physical examination revealed opacification of the crystalline lens and simple myopic astigmatism in both eyes, in addition, complementary tests showed corneal thinning, bilateral exudates and subretinal hemorrhage in the right eye. Therefore, he was diagnosed with retinal arterial macroaneurysm and cataract on the right side. As a treatment it was decided to administer anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (Bevacizumab) for five months in order to avoid macular deformation, and then a retinal laser surgery was performed.
