Ciencia y Salud Journal Ethics and Publication Code
Introduction:
The journal Ciencia y Salud promotes that all involved in any part of the editorial process (authors, journal team, peer reviewers, external collaborators, etc.) adhere to ethical standards throughout the publication process. Therefore, we detail below the internal code of ethics we promote.
1. Introduction
This document aims to set guidelines and procedures for an appropriate publication process in the Ciencia y Salud journal. Transparent practices and adherence to editorial ethics are essential for the academic development of the scientific community. Given their vital importance, it is crucial that these practices are well known by all parties involved in the publication process of the journal. This will lead to a more reliable process and define a clear direction in the actions of the journal.
2. Objective
To ensure adherence to the ethical practices of the Ciencia y Salud journal's editorial process and to establish a clear and transparent process for all parties.
3. Important Concepts
Throughout the publication process of the Ciencia y Salud journal, there will be different actors involved, including:
- Author: A person who, after a research process, prepares an academic work aimed at providing new knowledge to the scientific community.
- Article: A document resulting from prior research intended for publication in academic media.
- Editor: A person responsible for supervising the publication process of various articles in the journal, ensuring compliance with ethical and moral standards.
- Reviewer: An expert in a specific area responsible for evaluating an article for publication, based on its content, structure, findings, etc.
- Editorial Committee: A group of professionals in relevant fields who provide both academic and technical support to the editorial process.
4. Duties and Responsibilities

Editors:
- Provide timely instructions and parameters for the publication of an article.
- Verify the originality of articles, ensuring no indications of plagiarism by the authors.
- Efficiently and smoothly coordinate the selection and review process of the article, maintaining the anonymity of both authors and reviewers at all times.
- Maintain proper control of the process, informing all parties of deadlines, necessary documents, authorship letters, and other required aspects.
- Communicate to the authors all modifications, suggestions, and/or corrections proposed by the reviewers, ensuring their correct inclusion in a new version of the document.
- Monitor the fulfillment of responsibilities by both authors and reviewers.
- Promote the continuous visibility of the journal, seeking indexations, and keeping the relevant information of the Ciencia y Salud journal up to date on its website and various social media platforms.

Authors:
- Fully guarantee the authorship of the article, avoiding plagiarism through correct citation.
- Understand and respect the Ciencia y Salud journal's Code of Ethics and Publication.
- Provide the journal editors with all necessary information for the process.
- Respect the anonymity of the reviewers, understanding this as a fundamental aspect of the ethical process the journal adheres to.
- Be willing to include the modifications and/or corrections proposed by the reviewer, adapting them as best as possible, or convincingly justifying their non-inclusion.
- Respect the deadlines and decisions made by the journal's editors regarding review, publication, and other matters.

Reviewers:
- Objectively and balancedly evaluate the corresponding article.
- Decline to review an article if they do not feel qualified to do so effectively.
- Respect the anonymity of the article's author.
- Inform and refuse the review if any anomalies are detected, such as a conflict of interest, likelihood of kinship, or other relationships that may compromise the objectivity of the review.
- Report only to the editor about the modifications, corrections, and/or adaptations they deem pertinent.
- Not disclose the content under review in any medium or manner.

Editorial Committee:
- Ensure the correct application of editorial standards and statutes throughout the publication processes.
- Propose reviewers, researchers, and/or articles for the journal.
- Help increase the journal's visibility in academic spaces.
- Safeguard the quality and ethics of the journal in all its aspects.
5. Inappropriate Situations
As a means to guarantee transparency and the correct application of the Ciencia y Salud Journal's Code of Ethics and Publication, the following situations are inadmissible:
- Plagiarism: Not correctly attributing the authorship of information used within the article. This can include omission, incorrect citation, and/or attribution of such information.
- Data Falsification and Fabrication: Refers to the intentional manipulation of the study factors, whether prior, during, or after the scientific model used for the article.
- Multiple Submissions: Presenting the results of the same study in a segmented manner, aiming to accumulate multiple articles instead of one.
- Simultaneous Publications: Submitting the same article for publication in different journals at the same time, or submitting articles very similar to each other.
- Conflict of Interest: Situations where various relationships (familial, institutional, economic, etc.) create an ethical and moral conflict that jeopardizes the truthfulness and fidelity of the information within the study.
Incurring any of the above situations will result in notification to the Editorial Committee and the subsequent withdrawal of the article, regardless of whether it has already been published. The author will be informed in writing, and if the situation involves other actors, they will also be duly informed.
