Abstract

Obesity and overweight are a health problem that may causes damage to the human body, affecting the quality of life of those who suffer from it. In this paper, we review the different biological compounds synthesized in adipose tissue, called adipokines, detailing the functions of the main substances that affect the prevalence of chronic noncommunicable diseases, such as diabetes mellitus 2 and the metabolic syndrome.
