Abstract
Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. It is considered a rare disease in most developed countries, but endemic in many underdeveloped countries. This pathogen mainly affects the skin and the peripheral nervous system. The course of the disease is determined by the immune response of the host.
