Abstract
Septic arthritis is defined as an infection that occurs within the joint space. Despite being a rare disease, it takes vital importance due to the severity of its sequels. It is because of this severity, the importance of reviewing this topic in this article. The main objective is to evaluate all possible causes, clinical characteristics, diagnostic methods, complementary studies, and the different therapeutic approaches of this pathology. This topic of review is of vital importance because the consequences of septic arthritis can be devastating to the joint and the patient if not treated in the proper manner and in the right time. Septic arthritis is considered a surgical emergency, and a delay in diagnosis and treatment can lead to irreversible damage to the joint.
