Abstract
Levosimendan is an inodilator characterized by its positive inotropy, vasodilation, and cardioprotection; uniquemechanism of action that differentiates it from all other inotropic drugs. In addition, it has the active
metabolite, OR-1896, which allows it to maintain its therapeutic effects for several days, even after the
infusion is finished. Its potential effects to manage acute heart failure and advanced chronic heart failure have now been
demonstrated, providing a new option for patients when conventional therapy is not being effective in
controlling the disease.
