Abstract

ABSTRACT:

Introduction: Covid-19 is a transmissible viral disease that currently has become a pandemic worldwide, generating mild and severe respiratory, cardiac, neurological and other problems. It was discovered in Wuhan China and so far there is a vaccine for this virus, however, there are still cases of Covid-19 outbreaks. Likewise, it has been observed that patients with high D-dimer values are patients with worse prognosis and high probability of mortality.

Objectives: To determine the clinical usefulness of D-Dimer as a predictor of mortality in critically ill patients diagnosed with COVID-19.

Methods: Descriptive study, literature review. Information will be obtained from databases such as Science Direct, Pubmed and Scopus, in Spanish and English, research without time limit.

Results: The aim is to establish the usefulness of D-dimer values above 0.5 mg/l as a predictor of mortality in patients who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 with the suspicion of presenting thrombotic events that put the patient's life at risk.

Conclusions: thanks to the study carried out by the research team, it was determined that values above 0.5 mg/dl and even 5 or 6 times above normal generate values of severity and mortality, respectively. Therefore, it is important to determine D-dimer values at admission.
