Abstract

Anorectal melanoma is a rare and very aggressive neoplasm recognized worldwide, representing 1% of colorectal cancers.  Its clinical presentation is very nonspecific, so a high index of suspicion is required to avoid diagnostic delay. It presents a characteristic management due to its poor prognosis, in most cases, because of its difficult diagnosis. It is an infrequent and poorly described pathology. Surgery is the treatment of choice. Case report: 52-year-old male referred from the primary care center to the screening program for positive SOH. Endoscopy was performed where a 5mm pigmented lesion was evidenced and biopsied. The final diagnosis of the lesion, after local surgical resection, was polypoid anorectal malignant melanoma, with good postoperative evolution.
