Abstract

The nucleus pulposus has the function of absorb the axial load on the column vertebral and transfers the energy to the ring fibrous, in such a way that said load of converts into a compression force to stress, allowing the transmission of energy of the nucleus pulposus to the ring, maintaining the height of the disc, the content of water and its mechanical function. So, the DIV works like a hydraulic cushionto pressure, which transmits and absorbs loads. its breakage or loss of hydraulic imbibition makes lose this biomechanical property of the DIV.
