Pulmonary embolism (PE) represents a continuum in thromboembolic disease, with diverse risk factors, most of them acquired. Its clinical manifestations are diverse as well, but generally fit with respiratory signs and symptoms, as well as cardiac manifestations. Being this a disease with many presentations and frequently overlooked, this article centers on a systematic description of the diagnostic workup and management of PE.
