Abstract
Clinical simulation is an educational tool that provides students with a safe and controlled environment to acquire knowledge by replicating common scenarios in clinical settings. Technological and pedagogical advancements have enabled immersive virtual reality simulations that enhance treatments. This approach fosters the development of clinical competencies, improves patient safety, and reduces costs. Additionally, it prepares future professionals to face complex situations in the healthcare field.
It is essential to complement disciplinary experience with pedagogical models for effective health education. Clinical simulation offers the advantage of a controlled environment where health students can develop and refine technical, clinical, and decision-making skills. Moreover, it facilitates experiential learning and personalized feedback while ensuring systematic and ethical training.
Physical therapy students must acquire both technical and non-technical skills. This review demonstrates that simulation in physical therapy is an effective methodology for developing these skills in a safe and controlled environment, helping to reduce anxiety and improve students' confidence. Furthermore, it is particularly effective in preparing students for chronic pain management, as it consolidates knowledge and enhances psychosocial skills. This has a positive impact on professional training, leading to optimal outcomes in real clinical settings.
